Artwork Application

Application can be the most satisfying part of the creative process; it allows digital work to cross the threshold into the physical world and that leap holds an indisputable validation. As an illustrator who produces prolifically, the appeal of slowing down and exploring uses for my artwork was a welcome change of pace.

The impending coronation of Liverpool Football Club as Premier League champions coupled with Nike assuming sponsorship duties presented suitable subject matter and a looming date to develop a project around.

I produced six images, arranged below, drawn in black contrasted with an arresting red swoosh. Most of the artwork was designed around a 6x6 grid. I could let loose when rendering the player bodies and then design appropriate items to snuggly fill the gaps. I was conscious of catering to Nike athletes but had some fun with the famous front three of Salah, Mane and Firmino too.

After working with red for the majority of the project I tried backgrounds with a completely fresh palette.

Due to the dynamic nature of projects, any artwork I make needs to be scalable. My hand drawn pixel approach can be converted to vector without any loss of detail or personality as seen in the comparison below. This seamless reproduction adds another dimension of adaptability to my work.
